Ochs
You probably haven’t heard of Ochs. Its a site-specific Chrome-only browser extension I wrote a few months back.
The blurb for it is:
Ochs provides a step-back, focusing on a cleaner layout, single-page, less-is-more approach for The New York Times web site.
The New York Times web site is well designed but at times bursting with too much information and calls for attention.
Ochs provides a step-back, focusing on a cleaner layout, increased Typekit usage, single-page articles, less clutter and more white-space. It takes a less-is-more approach and removes content - though never the most important.
As of writing it has 1,122 active users and lives here in the Google Chrome WebStore.
On Friday I moved all the code to GitHub. People had talked about porting it to other browsers and I just haven’t had time to follow-up. The code was also written in a rushed and short-sighted manner (planned features changed every 5 minutes) and so definitely open to improvement.
The other reason for all this is that I have created many projects, put in a lot of thought and effort, only to neglect them as work and family commitments pull me onwards. I don’t intend for that to happen to Ochs, but if it does at least I know the code is out there for anyone else to poke though. There is a certain reassurance to that.
I won’t be updating the Ochs tumblr as its probably better to consolidate it here so its not neglected.
